1703  Mount Gay in Barbados began distilling rum and is known to be the oldest existing brand of rum in the world.

1829  Yuengling Brewery in Pennsylvania opens and is the oldest brewery still operating in the USA.

1872  The patent for a toothpick manufacturing machine granted.

1881  Kansas becamomes the first state to prohibit all alcoholic beverages.

1890  Michael Romanoff was born in Lithuania known for many things but most notably Romanoff’s restaurant in Beverly Hills in the late 1930s, which became popular with Hollywood movie stars and later closed in 1962.

1985  Cherry Coke was introduced although soda fountains had been making them for decades.

2009  Hershey’s candy maker closed its factory in Reading, Pennsylvania and was moved to a new factory in Monterey, Mexico.
