Batching

Batching

No matter if you are running a bar, a catering event or even a small party at home, cocktails which are always in demand can often be batched.  This means, preparing cocktails and drinks in advance so you can concentrate on other things like talking to your guests or preparing the food.  While it is Never good to batch anything with fresh ingredients like citrus, those which are on the shelf and not refrigerated are a no brainer to batch.  So many of these recipe below can be innovated. For example, instead of a Gin Martini, this can easily become a Cucumber Martini (with cucumber vodka) or even an Appleton or Watermelontini simply by replacing the vermouth with the appropriate snapps such as apple, watermelon, melon, peach, etc etc etc.

It is simple, you just have to get a measuring glass and a clean empty bottle with a secure (stopper) top that you can place in the freezer.  This will even help you cut back on ice.

A standard 12.5 oz bottle is 375 ml. Technically, they will hold 14 ounces if filled just barely to the top before it touches the stopper. Naturally, a 25 ounce bottle will hold 750ml. Technically they will hold a bit more, but for the simplicity of math, just double what you see below and the bottle, whether it be 750ml or 1 liter will be fine.

If you are not measuring (but you should), consider each 375ml bottle to be about 4 drinks maybe a little more. So, if you have a crowd of Negroni drinkers and not too many whiskey fans, obviously make a double batch of the more popular drinks.  Remember, just because it is batched does not mean you should not be a responsible host or drinker. 4 cocktails per person is more than enough, no more than 3 should be the goal.
