Episode #2449 – Ides of March vs Bloody Caesar

The Bloody Caesar is a cocktail that Canadians drink 350 million of every year, substituting Clamato in place of Tomato Juice. I am not sure how this is enjoyed by so many in a country with 40 million people, but I had to explore it.  Truth be told, I think I’ve only had one Bloody Mary in my life.  So, it was time to experience what so many Canadians find fascinating just in case I was missing something and I can then say the Bloody Mary is my 2nd to last favorite cocktail in the world.

This recipe was developed in 1969 by Walter Chell at the Calgary Inn in Alberta, Canada.  If you don’t care for all the artificial ingredients in Clamato, just add in real clam juice and add your own spices:

INGREDIENTS

  • 1.5 ounces vodka
  • 4 ounces Clamato juice
  • 1/4 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1 dash worcestchire sauce
  • 1 dash hot sauce (Tabasco)
  • GARNISH: Celery stalk and/or celery salt rim
